Steve's book.
Out now....
What I learned about winning and losing. Steve's stories and strategies.
I've long resisted the requests I've had to write an autobiography, rather preferring to be out there doing it. Besides I was on the public speaking circuit, they'd all have heard it before. Years later I decided that it would be too arrogant to do so anyway.
Then I started writing a training book, but something happened that changed my mind….
After retiring in 2005 with badly torn ankle cartilage, I was seriously depressed about not being able to race anymore. The only way out of those deep, dark depths was to force myself to dig even deeper and find out why winning was so important to me. It got pretty ugly down there, but it eventually led me to question the meaning of life.
After 2 scary but stimulating years I found the answer! The answer was somewhat different than I thought it might be. And this is what inspired me to write and share what I found. It was an answer that I thought might help other driven folks like myself. I was especially prepared to share if it helped others to understand who they were, to have courage, to motivate themselves, to achieve their goals, to be themselves and if it helped make our world a better place.
To put it in a nut-shell, I want to answer the question that most people ask me; What drove Gurney to race 19 coast to Coast races in a row, and how did he win 9?
It's a collection of stories, some funny, some serious, of how I did things to win races. (I'm not interested in lecturing people).
